The polyester capacitor is designed with two metal plates where the polyester film is arranged between them; otherwise, a metalized film can be placed over the insulator. The polyester capacitor capacitance ranges from 1nF -15µF and works from 50 to 1500V.
The polyester capacitor is also called polyester film and the dielectric material used in this is made with a polymer known as PET or polyethylene terephthalate. So this is the main reason to call this capacitor a PET Film Capacitor. As compared to other manufacturers, the leading manufacturer of this capacitor is “Hostaphan”.
Polyester film capacitors showcase a unique non-linear temperature coefficient, where capacitance increases at higher temperatures and decreases at lower temperatures. Within the temperature range of 25 to 85 degrees Celsius, a rising temperature coefficient is observed.

The capacitance frequency dependence of polyester film capacitors compared with the other film capacitors is -3% in the range from 100 Hz to 100 kHz at the upper limit. Also, the temperature and frequency dependence of the dissipation factor are higher for polyester film capacitors compared with the other film capacitor types.
Polypropylene film capacitors boast a negative temperature coefficient of -150 ppm. They offer a low dielectric absorption of .02% and can handle temperatures up to a maximum of 105 degrees Celsius. If their negative temperature coefficient is not an issue, they make a good replacement for polystyrene.
